Our wall decorations are made of plant fibres, so they smell and feel wonderfully like nature.
The water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant that grows in rivers and lakes. It actually comes from South America, but was also introduced to Southeast Asia. There it is considered a weed because it multiplies incredibly quickly and can cover entire bodies of water with a carpet of leaves. The resulting lack of light and oxygen causes all life under water to die. Therefore, the plants must be removed regularly. In order to prepare the plants for further processing, the leaves are cut off and the thick stems are dried in the sun for three to seven days. The result is an abundant, sustainable raw material for many wickerworks here at Soeji!
